This room has interesting history. In the days when Kaunas was the city of Hansa, a clever merchant lived in this room. He himself experienced a relentless burden of customs duties. The room has very small niches by the windows. If you didn’t know the story, you would never think about it. And the story goes that that merchant, taking advantage of the niches, helped the merchants protect themselves from the customs. When the customs officers gathered enough taxes and pampered in the house next door, the cunning merchant lit candles in the niches and it was a signal that you could sail the river freely as the customs officers were celebrating. In this way he, at least sometimes, protected traders from ruthless customs duties.
Hotel Daugirdas has taken the pledge of confidentiality, so thats why many famous people, show stars, politicians choose our place for their quiet stay.
The room has an old Gothic spirit with niches and views reminiscent of Venice. It has a lot of books and magazines that create a real home mood.
